Looking to grow as a leader? Trying to broaden your business perspective? Seeking to develop your business acumen? ABCSD is excited to partner with Harvard Business School Alumni Club of San Diego to bring this executive leadership forum to our members. The case method-based program puts you in the driver's seat to discuss and propose solutions to real issues that organizations face across a host of areas including Finance, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Strategy, and Marketing. Why does it matter? Because a broader perspective allows you to build better alliances with peers, exert more influence, more rapidly advance your career and achieve business goals.

What's Different About The Case Method?

In leach lesson you will be faced with a real business decision faced by a real company. You decide the course of action based on the information in the case. As confident as you may be that you have the best solution to a company's challenge, you will inevitably find that your classmates think about these issues differently. They have different perspectives, based on different life experiences. Suddenly your ability to see an issue from multiple sides broadens in real time. The case method learning experience truly is like no other; and Harvard pioneered it. Our program is taught by alumni of Harvard's MBA program who have participated in hundreds of case discussions.

The Curriculum:

The course covers many of the subjects of an advanced degree program but in an abbreviated fashion using case studies.

Marketing:

If a company is to survive and prosper, it must pay close attention to how it matches the capabilities of the company, the needs of the customers, and the requisite communication between the two.

Finance:

Finance is the primary channel for communicating the economics of any business. Most of the decisions made by business managers involve financial information. The course offers a brief introduction to key aspects of finance.

Leadership and Organizations:

These cases address the human side of the enterprise and how managing relationships becomes more important than performing tasks as managers gain reasonability for leadership.

Entrepreneurship & Start-ups:

Nascent businesses face a litany of challenges vastly different than that of established ones. We look at a variety of start-ups to better examine challenges with business models, strategy, financing and leadership that entrepreneurs must be adept at handling.

Competition and Strategy:

Strategy is the art of creating sustainable competitive advantage by utilizing a company's capabilities to take advantage of the opportunities and risks associated with dynamic changes in an industry and among competitors.

Ethics:

The complexity of organizations and pressures for achievement cause situations in which the individual must make choices based on personal values. These situations will be noted in several cases.

Homework/Preparation:

To gain the full value of the program, the attendee should have the reading speed and time to cover 40 to 75 pages of case work and articles each week (3-4 hours/week). In addition, the analysis of the cases often requires the use of basic math skills. There are no formal written assignments.
